Soča Rafting

Guided whitewater rafting on the upper Soča between Bovec and Trnovo — the country’s main rafting water.

Why visit

The most exhilarating thing to do in the Julian Alps that requires no prior skill.

About

The upper Soča is Slovenia’s principal whitewater, and the standard commercial descent runs from above Bovec down towards Trnovo, typically graded II–III depending on level. Several licensed operators are based in Bovec and all provide wetsuits, helmets, buoyancy aids and guides; the water is genuinely cold, in single digits into early summer. Minimum ages vary by operator and by river level, and trips are cancelled outright when the Soča is too high.

Good to know

Book only with a licensed operator that provides guides and equipment. The Soča is cold and fast; levels change quickly with rain and snowmelt, and trips are and should be cancelled in high water. Minimum age and swimming ability requirements are set by the operator.

Book through a licensed operator. We do not provide technical instructions for this activity.
