Kayaking and SUP on Lake Bohinj

Flat-water kayak, canoe and paddleboard hire on Bohinj — the calmest way onto the water in the Alps.

About

Bohinj permits non-motorised craft, and hire points at Ribčev Laz and Ukanc rent kayaks, canoes and paddleboards by the hour. The lake is 4.2 km long and usually calm in the morning, with the wind picking up in the afternoon, so early is better. Paddling to the far western end and back takes around two hours. Buoyancy aids are provided and should be worn; the water is deep and cold even in August.

Good to know

Deep, cold open water inside a national park. Wear the buoyancy aid, keep off the lake if wind is forecast, and note that afternoon thunderstorms build quickly in summer.
