Slovenian art from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, including the Impressionists who defined the national canon.

Why visit

The best single place to understand how Slovenia sees itself in paint.

About

The permanent collection runs from medieval frescoes and Gothic sculpture through to the four Slovene Impressionists — Jakopič, Jama, Grohar and Sternen — whose work is the core of the museum’s identity. The building combines an 1896 national hall with a modern glazed link. It sits in the museum quarter next to Tivoli Park, with the National Museum and Museum of Modern Art within two minutes’ walk, which makes the area the obvious wet-weather plan.
