Centralna tržnica
Plečnik’s riverside colonnade and the open-air stalls behind it — a working market, not a tourist one.
The most direct way to see what Slovenians actually eat — and the cheapest good lunch in the centre.
The covered colonnade along the Ljubljanica was designed by Plečnik in the 1930s and is part of the UNESCO inscription; the fish hall sits at its end. Behind it, Vodnikov trg holds the open produce market, and Pogačarjev trg the dairy hall, where the milk vending machine dispenses unpasteurised local milk. It is busiest and best on Saturday morning. Sunday it is largely closed, apart from a flea market on the Cankarjevo embankment.
Outdoor stalls follow the season and the weather; most traders pack up earlier than the official close. Largely closed on Sundays.
Hours and prices change. Check the official source before you go.
Street level throughout, but crowded and with cobbles in places.
