Slovenia’s best-known ski town in winter; in summer, the foot of the Vršič pass and the start of a flat 80 km cycle route to Italy and Austria.
Kranjska Gora sits in the far north-west corner where Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet. In winter it hosts a men’s Alpine Ski World Cup round on the Podkoren slope, and the ski jumping at Planica 4 km away is the largest hill in the world. In summer it is the northern trailhead for the Vršič pass — 50 hairpins and the highest road in Slovenia at 1,611 m — and the junction of two long valley cycle paths, which makes it the most family-practical Alpine base for cycling.
