Terraced hills of vines, cherries and olives on the Italian border — the Slovenian half of Collio.
Brda is a landscape of low hills between the Soča and the Italian border, and it is geologically and culturally continuous with Collio on the other side — the frontier runs through the middle of a single wine district. It produces Slovenia’s best-known white wines, including the orange and macerated styles that made producers here internationally known. The hilltop village of Šmartno is a walled medieval core; Dobrovo has the castle and the regional wine cellar. It is best on two wheels or in a car, with a designated driver.
