Piran Town Walls

Piranske mestne obzidje

The surviving hilltop wall above the town, with the best view on the Slovenian coast for a very small fee.

Why visit

The view that explains why the town is shaped the way it is.

About

Piran’s seventh defensive wall, built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, survives along the ridge above the town with several towers you can climb. From the top you get the whole peninsula, the red roofs, the salt pans towards Sečovlje, and on a clear day the Alps behind Trieste. The climb up through the old town is steep and stepped, and the wall walk has no railings in places. It is one of the cheapest good things to do on the coast.

Good to know

Unprotected drops along sections of the wall. Keep children close.
