Bled Castle

Blejski grad

A castle on a 130 m cliff over the lake, first mentioned in 1011, with the best view of the island.

Why visit

The view that made Bled famous is from up here, not from the shore.

About

The castle is the oldest documented in Slovenia, granted to the bishops of Brixen in 1011. Inside there is a museum, a working printing press using period methods, a herbal gallery and a wine cellar where you can bottle and seal your own. The real draw is the terrace view: the island church below with the Karavanke behind it. It is reached by a steep footpath from the lake in about 20 minutes, or by road.
