A castle built into the mouth of a cave in a vertical cliff, ten minutes from Postojna Cave.
Predjama is wedged into a cave entrance 123 m up a cliff face, which makes it one of the most dramatically sited castles in Europe. Its fame rests on Erazem Lueger, a robber knight besieged here in the 1480s, who — the story goes — held out by using a secret passage through the cave system behind, and was eventually killed by a cannonball while in the privy. The interior is furnished as a castle museum. The cave behind it can be visited separately in season.
Built into a cliff on many levels with narrow stairs throughout. There is no step-free route through the castle.
