Pourquoi y aller
For eight centuries Škofja Loka belonged to the bishops of Freising in Bavaria, which is why its centre looks more Alpine-German than Slovenian. The town square survived a catastrophic 1511 earthquake and was rebuilt largely as it stood. It sits on the way from Ljubljana towards Bled or the Sora valleys, which makes it an unusually good first or last stop rather than a destination in itself.
