Pourquoi y aller
Kamnik is a half-hour from Ljubljana and mostly overlooked, which is its advantage. The old town is a single long street under two castle ruins. For most visitors its real function is as the gateway to Velika Planina, the high pasture reached by cable car from Kamniška Bistrica — one of the few places in Europe where a working herdsmen’s settlement is still in seasonal use.
