Pourquoi y aller
Pohorje is geologically different from the rest of upland Slovenia: it is silicate, not karst, so water stays on the surface. That gives it peat bogs, small lakes and streams that the limestone Alps lack, along with dense spruce forest. It is a gentle massif — the high point, Črni vrh, is 1,543 m of rolling ridge — which makes it good for family walking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. The Maribor gondola and the Rogla resort are the two main access points.
