Every place, route, summit and number on this site comes from one of the sources below. Where a licence requires a credit, that credit also appears on the page the data is used on.
Places, opening hours, addresses, walking and cycling routes, mountain huts, springs and summits. The map tiles too, through OpenFreeMap.

Mapzen / Tilezen terrain tiles
Public domain (SRTM, NED, GMTED)
Elevation profiles and computed ascent. A thirty-metre grid gets the shape of a climb right and a rock summit wrong, which is why a measured climb is always labelled as measured.
Forecasts inside the provider’s real horizon of about sixteen days. Beyond it we show no weather rather than a guess.
Ratings, review counts and photographs, fetched per place and shown with Google’s own credit. Never copied into our database, and never used to decide what to recommend.
The businesses themselves
Licensed to us by the business
Descriptions, menus, prices and photographs supplied by a venue or provider through their own account. Always marked as coming from the business, because a reader is entitled to weigh it differently.
Share-alike
The OpenStreetMap data here is ODbL, which means anyone may use it on the same terms we do. Our own additions — what venues tell us, what our travellers rate, and the ranking we compute — are ours and are not ODbL. Where the two sit side by side on a page, the credit says which is which.
What we do not do
- We do not scrape sites that forbid it, and we do not copy Google’s reviews or photos into a database of our own.
- We do not invent a fact to fill a gap. A place with no accessibility data says so, rather than being presented as accessible or inaccessible.
- We do not let money change a ranking. A business paying us, or listing itself here, is marked as such and scored exactly as everything else is.
