Why visit
In 1960 a borehole north-east of Murska Sobota was sunk looking for oil and struck water instead: dark, mineral-heavy and hot enough that it has to be cooled before anyone can sit in it. Terme 3000 grew around that well and Terme Vivat followed in the next village. The appeal is specific and worth being plain about — this is not scenery, it is water, and it is the one kind of Slovenian holiday that works as well in February as in July, which is why half the country comes here out of season. Behind the village the Goričko hills begin, a landscape of long low ridges, vineyards and storks that is now a landscape park running to the Austrian and Hungarian borders.
