Pourquoi y aller
Cerkniško jezero is a karst polje that floods each year and drains through sinkholes, so it can be 26 km² of open water in spring and dry grassland by late summer. This makes it one of the more unusual things to see in the country, and also means checking the current state before going. Nearby Rakov Škocjan is a small collapsed cave valley with two natural bridges, and Križna jama is a water cave visited by boat with a guide.
