Every Michelin-Starred Restaurant in Slovenia 2026: 10 Tables Worth the Drive
6 min read
Slovenia has 13 Michelin stars and 74 restaurants in the 2026 guide. That is more than most countries ten times its size — and two more restaurants than last year.
So here is the whole starred list, all ten of them, with the town and the chef, so you can decide which one is worth your evening. Nothing here is invented: it comes from the Michelin Guide Slovenia 2026 results, published in June.
One honest note before you book. A star is a claim about cooking, not about whether you will enjoy the room. Some of these are once-a-year dinners. Some are special-occasion places where you spend the evening. Pick for the occasion, not for the badge.
How the 2026 guide breaks down
The MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 recommends 74 restaurants. Inside that: one restaurant with three stars, one with two, eight with one star, twelve Bib Gourmands for good value, and 52 simply selected.
Across all of that there are 13 stars, one more than in 2025.
Three stars: Hiša Franko, Kobarid
Ana Roš, in Kobarid, in the Soča Valley. Hiša Franko took Slovenia's first three stars in 2023 and has held them since. Three stars mean exceptional cooking worth a special journey, and this is the only table in the country at that level.
Kobarid is not on the way to anywhere. That is the point. You build a day around it — the Soča, the Kobarid museum, a walk up to the Italian trenches — and then you eat.
Book well ahead. This is a destination restaurant in a small alpine town.
Two stars: Milka, Kranjska Gora
David Žefran's Milka has held two stars for the fourth year running. The cooking is rooted in the Julian Alps: alpine herbs, mountain dairy, seasonality, modern technique.
Kranjska Gora in season is busy with skiers and hikers. Milka is the reason to stay the night rather than drive back down the valley.
The eight one-star restaurants
Eight restaurants hold one star in 2026, spread from the coast to Štajerska. One of them is new this year.
COB, Portorož — Filip Matjaž
On the coast. If you are based in Piran, Izola or Portorož, this is the closest starred table in the country to the sea, and it makes a sensible final-night dinner before you fly home.
Dam, Nova Gorica — Uroš Fakuč
Nova Gorica sits against the Italian border, in the Vipava Valley's wine country. Pair it with a day of wineries rather than driving in from Ljubljana for dinner alone.
Gostilna pri Lojzetu, Vipava — Tomaž Kavčič
A gostilna with a star, in the Vipava Valley. The name matters: this is a traditional Slovenian restaurant format taken as far as it goes, not a white-tablecloth import. Vipava is around an hour from Ljubljana.
Grič, Šentjošt nad Horjulom — Luka Košir
In the hills west of Ljubljana, above the Horjul valley. Nejc Farčnik, who runs the wine here, took the guide's Sommelier Award for 2026 — a good signal if you care what is in the glass as much as on the plate.
Hiša Linhart, Radovljica — Uroš Štefelin
In the old town of Radovljica, 7 km from Lake Bled. The most practical starred stop on a Gorenjska trip: eat here, then walk the medieval centre.
Hiša Denk, Zgornja Kungota — Gregor Vračko
North-east, in the hills above Maribor and the Štajerska wine roads. Combine it with the Pohorje or the Drava.
Pavus, Laško — Marko Pavčnik
In Laško, the spa town in the Savinja valley. A good fit if you are already booked into the thermal baths.
Galerija okusov — Marko Magajne
The new star of 2026, and Magajne also took the Young Chef Award. If you want to eat at the table everyone will be talking about next year, this is it.
Worth knowing: two names that dropped out
Restavracija Strelec in Ljubljana and Vila Podvin near Radovljica are no longer in the starred list in 2026. Neither closed. If an old guide sent you to them for the star, that has changed.
The 2026 special awards
Four awards sit alongside the stars this year:
Young Chef: Marko Magajne, Galerija okusov
Sommelier: Nejc Farčnik, Grič
Service: Peter Patajac, Gostilnica Ruj in Dol pri Vogljah
Opening of the Year: Gostilna Francl in Celje, led by Sebastijan Kovačič — a new award, given for reviving a well-known restaurant without turning it into a museum
Both Gostilnica Ruj and Gostilna Francl also hold a Bib Gourmand, which is the guide's value distinction. If the starred list is out of budget, follow those two.
If you would rather eat well for less
Twelve Slovenian restaurants hold a Bib Gourmand in 2026 — the guide's marker for excellent cooking at a fair price. Two are new: Klinec Medana and Gostilna Francl. The rest of the dozen span the country, from Karst gostilnas to city bistros.
Start there. A Bib Gourmand is often the better evening: less ceremony, more of what the region actually eats.
The practical bit
Book ahead. All ten of these need a reservation, and the three- and two-star tables need weeks, not days.
Check the closing days. Almost every restaurant on this list closes two or three days a week. Nobody's website is as current as their phone.
Build the day around it. None of these are places you drive an hour to, eat in ninety minutes, and leave. Hiša Franko, Hiša Denk and Dam all sit in regions worth the whole afternoon.
A star is not a guarantee of your kind of night. Read the menu before you commit. If a nine-course tasting is not what you want on a Tuesday, pick a Bib Gourmand instead.
Or let the map do it
If you would rather not cross-reference ten restaurants against your route, ask LetsVisit. Say something like "one-star dinner in Gorenjska, somewhere I can stay the night" and it answers with real places drawn from 43 destinations and 6,216 spots across Slovenia, on a map you can book from. No sponsored slots, no filler.
FAQ
How many Michelin-starred restaurants are in Slovenia?
Ten in the 2026 guide: one with three stars, one with two, and eight with one. That is 13 stars in total.
Which restaurant has three Michelin stars in Slovenia?
Hiša Franko in Kobarid, with Ana Roš. It received three stars in 2023 and has held them every year since.
Which is the cheapest way to eat Michelin-level food in Slovenia?
Look at the twelve Bib Gourmand restaurants. They are recognised for good value rather than stars, and several — including Gostilnica Ruj and Gostilna Francl — sit alongside the award winners.
Do I need to book?
Yes, for all ten. The starred places need the most notice. Call rather than relying on a booking form.
Where should I stay if I book Hiša Franko?
Kobarid itself, or anywhere in the Soča Valley. The point of the trip is the valley, not the drive home.
